(2003, 2006); Gutiérrez-Alonso et al. (2008); Pin et al. (2008); Martínez Catalán et al. (2009). A) Opening of the Rheic ocean (GS; 422 ± 11 Ma); B) subduction of the Rheic ocean (GS, this study, 387 ± 18 Ma; Basalts El Castillo-EC-394.7 ± 1.4 Ma, Gutiérrez-Alonso et al., 2008; Fig. 17B) and; C) closing of the Rheic ocean/Variscan collision (AS-GS-CS, 361± 22 Ma-332 ± 17 Ma; Beja Igneous Complex-BIC; Pin et al., 2008).
