Rheological parameters used in all experiments. References are from R & D (Rybacki and Dresen, 2000), G & T (Gleason and Tullis, 1995), C & T (Carter and Tsenn, 1987), G & E (Goetze and Evans, 1979) and M (Mackwell et al., 1998). Other parameters described in Appendix A, which have fixed values, are listed here: α = 3.10−5 K−1 (thermal expansion), β = 1.10−11 Pa−1 (adiabatic compressibility), κe = 1.10−6 m2 s−1 (erosional diffusive coefficient), κ = 1.10−6 m2 s−1 (heat diffusivity), εmin = 0, εmax = 1, Cp = 1000 J kg−1 K−1 (heat capacity), H = 3.10−9 W kg−1 (heat production).
