Model for the Variscan crustal structure in the Pontgibaud region. LGU paragneiss and migmatites are exposed from Pontgibaud to the St Gervais Massif northwards. The transition from paragneiss to metatexite and diatexite is gradual. At depth, migmatites are products of partial melting of LGU and are abundant down to the granulitic lower crust. In this model, granites, migmatites and paragneiss are genetically linked.
