Table 1

Advantages and disadvantages of fieldwork and Virtual Field Trip (VFT) identified by students at the end of the project, in the free expression sections of the survey.

Benefits of fieldwork Drawbacks of fieldwork
- Better immersion in the study area
- Ability to break, touch and smell the rock - Weather dependent
- Ability to observe very fine structures (including with a magnifying glass) - Inaccessibility of certain areas
- Outstanding and memorable learning environment - Impossible to take measurements over large areas

Benefits of VFTs Drawbacks of VFTs

- Multi-scale approach
- No time limits, possibility of returning to a study area
-Possibility of changing the viewing angle - Difficulty in observing very fine resolution (minerals,
techtoglyphs, striations, etc.)
- Possibility to access areas unattainable in the field - Possible loss of sense of scale
- Independent of weather and lighting conditions - Possible seasickness after a while in immersive VR
- Recreational (compared to lectures)
- Can be combined with other data sources

Current usage metrics show cumulative count of Article Views (full-text article views including HTML views, PDF and ePub downloads, according to the available data) and Abstracts Views on Vision4Press platform.
