Instruction for authors

Electronic submission

The manuscripts will be submitted on line at https://articlestatus.edpsciences.org/is/bsgf/.
You will have to follow the guided procedure.

A PDF format is required for the first submission or for the revised manuscript. If a manuscript is not adequally presented it might be not considered for review.

Authors must send a letter describing the context and the topics of their manuscript. Authors are invited to communicate the names of 4 possible (2 at least) referees for their manuscripts.

Short notes (maximum 4 pages, including illustrations) are planned for prompt publication after an accelerated review procedure.

Ethics before submission

Bulletin de la Société géologique de France can only process articles that have been approved by all co-authors and are not under review for publication elsewhere.

Manuscripts

The text must be typed entirely in lower case and double-spaced on one column, each page and line being numbered. All articles must comprise, in the following order

  • the title (English and French)
  • the common first names (spellt in full) and the names of authors
  • their addresses and/or those of parent organisations
  • an electronic address
  • 6 key words (English and French)
  • an abstract (2,000 -3,000 characters)
  • a French résumé (2,000-3,000 characters)
  • text
  • references
  • illustration captions
  • illustrations (one per page)

Supplementary material

Some data can be provided as supplementary material, including: videos, big tables, big images…

Reference Style

It is important to verify the accuracy of bibliographic information contained in references. This has become particularly important with the advent of online versions. Hyperlinks will be programmed to enable readers to jump directly to the material cited. If your cited references are incorrect or incomplete (e.g., missing author name, or an incorrect volume number or page), the associated hyperlink may fail, and the usefulness of your paper in the online environment may be reduced.

References in the text must include the name of author followed by the year of publication. For example: (Smith, 2002), According to Smith (2002), (Smith and Davies, 2002; Davies, 2003; Smith, 2005; Smith et al., 2007).

Reference list

The names of journals should be abbreviated according to the World list of scientific periodicals and italicized. The following usage should be conformed to:

Journal:
Goozner M, Caplan A, Moreno J, Kramer BS, Babor TF, Husser WC. 2009. A common standard for conflict of interest disclosure in addiction journals. Addiction 104:1779-1784.

Book's chapter:

Tables

When an author has reproduced a table from another publication, its origin should be indicated clearly in the manuscript; the author should also obtain reproduction permission from the publisher concerned.

Tables should be numbered consecutively throughout (Table 1, etc.) and be cited in the text as follows:

“There are about 185 901 nodes and 113 367 elements used (Tab. 2).”

Each table must be accompanied by a brief caption situated directly above the table. Each table should be printed on a separate page.

Figures

When an author has reproduced a figure from another publication, its origin should be indicated clearly in the manuscript; the author should also obtain reproduction permission from the publisher concerned.

Each figure should be cited in the text and should be numbered as follows:

“There are about 185 901 nodes and 113 367 elements used (Fig. 1).”

Each figure should have a brief caption describing it.There is no limit on the number of figures used. However it is important to make sure that all figures are absolutely necessary, and are well designed.

Illustrations

Place illustrations (Tables, Graphs, Figures, Photographs) at the end of text, each on a separate page. These shall be numbered using Arabic numbers and accompanied by a short legend in French. They must be cited in the text body (Box, Table, Fig.). A list of of illustrations with their legends shall be placed at the end of text. Graphs and figures must be submitted in separate electronic file in .EPS, .PS, .PPT or .TIFF format with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi, and photographs in .JEPG format with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi. Since figures in the journal are mostly presented on a single 80 mm wide column - exceptionally 170 mm width - font point size used in the original A4 format must be big enough so that the lettering can be read after it is reduced to column width.

Colour illustrations are published in black and white in the printed version. Take care that they are legible (choice of lineart for graphs, brightness and contrast for photos). Reproduction of photos or colour figures in the printed version, if required, is at author's cost (estimate available on request from the publisher).

All illustrations must be high quality for direct reproduction. They will not be edited by the publisher.

It is the author's responsibility to seek permission to reproduce any material already published (photos, figures, tables) from the publishers and the authors concerned. The source must be mentioned.
